Taketh, Giveth - Reckless Ferrets

'Taketh, Giveth' was made and won by National Film and Television School students for the Ukie Student Game Jam 2024. The theme was "Integrity".

Description: You are a spacecraft with the sole purpose to consume. Greed is your fuel, but a young small planet is eager for your scraps. Give and watch the planet grow, or thrive by taking relentlessly. 

Controls: Left and Right Keys

How to Play: The all seeing eye predicts the ships next symbol thruster 👁️ maneuver the ship to aim towards your two choices: taketh or giveth. To take is to stay alive, to consume. To give is to share your resources with the nearby planet, benefiting them greatly.

Comment on game design & narrative: The trippy level design enables players to strategically maneuver through the environment by rotating the ship and deftly matching symbols to propel the player closer to their destination. We wanted to explore the theme of integrity, morally and physically. In ‘Taketh, Giveth’ we are thrown into a game of balance, of finding where you place your priorities.  Perhaps, threatening the existence of an entire planet in order to satiate your need to consume.

What the judges thought: Taketh, Giveth explores both the physical and moral definition of the theme of ‘integrity’ in its concept, design and gameplay, showcasing the team's truly formidable aspiration and delivery. The need to take (to survive) in order to give (to score points) creates rich, interesting and challenging gameplay that keeps you coming back after game over. The visual design is gorgeous, and the excellent sound design adds to the atmospheric build-up of the spooky and mystical bizarreness.
